Our institutions facilitate empathy, social connections, physical health and emotional well-being for the millions of visitors to museums each year, whether they are there to learn, or just find inspiration and solace.Museums can be more than just a repository of objects with meaning. They are sanctuaries that offer space for reflection, contemplation and renewal, both individually and collectively. All museums offer daily experiences that promote and nurture mental and physical well-being. Art therapy classes, exercise programs, nutrition programs and public health exhibitions are all included. So is the use of mindfulness and meditation, as well as design and operation choices that promote visitor and staff wellbeing. The positive impact of museums on the lives and recovery of veterans with PTSD, addicts, neurodivergent kids, dementia-ridden older adults, etc. is well documented. Museums have been a vital resource for those affected by disasters such as public health crises, social injustices and human rights violations. In addition, museum experiences enrich our understanding by enhancing personal, intellectual and social well-being.
