In Belgium, there are 7,331 firms (with atleast 5 employees) that work in the fields of materials processing and industrial supply. It may appear that this is a small area on the European map of manufacturing, but it contains a number of gems in terms innovative SMEs and larger companies with an international reputation. Over 70% of the production is exported. Since the pandemic, and since the imbalance on the labor market, investments in manufacturing and mechanical engineering are driven by innovation and industry4.0. Manufacturing is facing disruptions to the supply chain. These include short lead times, smaller production runs, custom design, increased energy costs, and choices of sustainable materials and production. Whoever doesn't take part is doomed to failure. In Belgium, increasing productivity by using smart, sustainable and innovative manufacturing technologies is a priority for this decade. Manufacturing industry4.0 demands that manufacturing companies become digital and integrated ecosystems, with a high-integrated value chain. R&D and engineering departments, as well as production, assembly and maintenance, are now integrated into departments that work closely together to produce products quickly, efficiently and affordably using the latest technology, materials, tools and machines. From A to Z, there is only one complete fair for mechanical engineering and manufacturing.
